While I’m not usually one to pay much attention to religion and its intricacies, it was kind of unescapable last week with:
a) all the hoopla surrounding the election of the new pope;
b) the fact that I actually went to a church for a gig.
I didn’t quite know what to expect from an electronic music gig held at a church (the band may have a somewhat religious inclined name, Purity Ring, but with witch like lyrics about ribs being pulled over cut open sternums, the name thing goes out the window) but it turned out to be the usual kind of stuff with very loud speakers (way too loud actually, the bass was just drowning everything in its passage) and even booze being sold! Ah, I wonder what the new pope would make of that!
Anyway, I digress…one of the things I usually appreciate in religion is the opulence and drama of its symbols, particularly the one of big momma, the Virgin Mary (remember this?) so inspired by that, here you go, double feature time!
