The daughter of an illustrator, Olympia Le Tan used her love for books to create a line of clutches entitled “You can’t judge a book by its cover”, that help give new meaning to the term book bag.
Each clutch (released in limited editions) is a reproduction of literature classics first edition books, handmade out of “liberty print lining, felt appliqué and silk thread for the embroideries, and colorful canvas for the base”.
Le-Tan was inspired by the classic tomes that filled her childhood home:
“I was thinking there were all these beautiful books around and they were being forgotten with everybody on the Internet, so I made it so that you can carry them around”
I’m a bit of a bookworm, so I find them to be quite charming, but their price is rather steep (which is probably why it’s being used by the likes of Natalie Portman). But if any kind and generous soul wants to give me one for Christmas I’m totally game :)
