Alexander McQueen is quite possibly my favourite designer out there, and I was terribly disappointed when he choose to do a diffusion line with american store Target, which made it quite impossible for Europeans to get their hands on that collection, since Target doesn’t ship overseas :(
Anyway, I’m digressing here, but his latest collection is a complete triumph of deliriousness and apart from the over the top Brazil meets Amanda Lepore makeup, there was another reference I was quick to notice: the use of M.C.Escher inspired patterns.
M.C.Escher is renowed for his ability to create unique optical illusions, with great respect for perspective, esthetic and geometrical precision. Some of his works resort to ducks in flight converging and morphing to create other items, which McQueen adapted, making the duck morph into a houndstooth pattern.
